I'm Back!!
Hey Everyone,
It's been a little over three weeks since my last blog. Bet most of you thought I was done with blogging! Sorry to disappoint you!
It's just been a really busy and frustrating period. More about that another time.
Today, I want to ask a question a gentleman put to me a few weeks ago. We were in the same vehicle, on our way from the Island to the Mainland. I'd noticed he was quite engrossed in the traffic going by and especially in the ladies on the "okadas"; I also noticed that he seemed pensive. Finally, he turned to me and asked 'Why do the ladies of now like to show their bum-bum?' His exact words, not mine. And, I honestly could not give him an answer to his question or disperse any of the puzzlement he very apparently felt!
So, why do ladies (can they really be called ladies?) show their bum-bums? Why do they expose, so unabashedly, the crack of the butt or more? Is it some ancient mating ritual that (probably involving a dance where the wiggling of our behinds and the depth of the cracks of our butts drew the male to us females, hmmmm) and lingers from the time when we may have been naked apes (Darwin's theory, not mine) and needed to attract the most virile ape to fertilize our seed? Or is it a subtle seduction antic meant to lure the opposite sex into our lairs? I cannot imagine it is a fashion trend or a lady-like thing to do. Or even African (exposition of the waist is the sexy African thing to do, where lines of beads have been strung!) Or maybe there's a contest going on that we, the uninitiated, are unaware of? Perhaps a competition for the most exposed dried butt crack in Lagos?
Personally, I just think it really obvious and crass and shows a serious deficit in how to fashionably fit our bodies. We need to understand that the denim pants or jeans made for the "oyinbo" butt will never fit us African mamas with butts that stick out like Beyonce's. The average "oyinbo" lady is wider hipped, and flatter "butted" than the average black woman. Therefore, when buying jeans or pants, keep in mind that piece of information - those jeans that look so great on Cindy Crawford's hips will make Beyonce look like a tramp as half her butt will be out there!
Letting the crack of your butt show is NOT attractive, neither is the strange looking rope or panty hem. If one must show that much skin or under-garments, then, take care of the skin on your back and butt and ensure that all underwear is "exposable" - ie, pretty AND sexy. And take care to only HINT at the crack of the butt or the pretty lace trimming on the panties.
Can someone tell these ladies that less is more?
