D'banj must be the biggest thing in Nigeria since....well....since I don't know what! "I'm D'banj", his standard introduction line, delivered in a style that's funny, sexy and interesting all at the same time, amuses me no end.
I heard his song "Why Me" for the first time while out on the town on my birthday. I had been away for months and totally out of the social loop, so I was really excited to be out on the town.
So, there we were at this popular drinks/dance smoke filled bar, trying very hard to pretend that one did not mind the smoke (when you are in your late thirties, a smoke filled place does not strike you as 'interesting ambience' but more as "lung cancer"!) and basically just trying not to feel ancient next to the teeny bopper generation Y kids (why generation Y? That's another story!) who were busy gyrating and hopping (yep, hopping). Anyway, I am really trying not to stare and suddenly the music gets frantic and I hear "I'm D'banj". It was love at first hearing.
To date, "Why me" is one of my favourites. I also love his piece on the Mo'Stars collaboration, "Pere". His word "Kokolet" really should be added to the Oxford dictionary. After all, if "bootylicious" can be officially recognized as a word and added to a lexicon, why not "kokolet", hmmm?

Vacation Time: Part I - Flying with children.

It's that time of the year. Vacation time! Yayyy!! Or is it "Oh No!"? Many of us will be boarding flights to some destination, where we hope to get some rest, relaxation and peace. Hope to.  My last post was May 12, 2019. Wow. Wow. And again, Wow. I haven’t written anything in three years. Except you count my WhatsApp responses to other people’s posts I think must be answered - people tend to say the darndest things and expect you to just accept it.  Social media has become a platform for social reform and most often not for the better - fact and fiction, gems and drivel are merged to form a warped “truth” spewed out with conviction and not many bother to check what’s what.
