Lustful Passion
Waiting to continue watching Season 3 of Scandal (on DSTV, it is called The Fixer)
For those who have not watched this amazing TV series, it is mostly about Olivia Pope and her on and off love affair with the American President. There are many twists, turns and crazy loops that keep you riveted and lusting, yes lusting for more. There's intrigue, drama, romance, sizzling retina-searing & eye-lash curling passion and some action.
My fascination is with the kind of passion between the very married President - Fitz, and Olivia. While I do not envy the seeming futility of the relationship and the sad loneliness of Olivia, I confess that the passion between them makes me envious! And I wonder, can that be real? Can you have that in your day-to-day relationship with a spouse or even a lover? Do the mundane and day-to-day realities of living not gradually dull that passion? Would you say it was just powerful infatuation?
Is there a way to make it last or at the very least conjure it from time to time?
Watching them, you can see it goes beyond a raging lust for each other. Fitz is hopelessly in love with this woman for whom he was ready to give up his marriage, his successful political career and his Presidency. Yep! He was ready to give up being the leader of the free world! For love of a woman.
Olivia loves Fitz right back, but, as women are wont to be, is more sensible and practical about the affair - to a certain extent. She does not let him give up his career or the Presidency or even his marriage but she cannot help but be drawn into intermittent trysts with him. Trysts where their passion for each other makes you need water as your throat is dried out from the heat they project!
I wonder, do we know anyone who loves like that? Any couple who shares that kind of passion, that fresh lust for each other - both physical & emotional - even though they've been together for a long time?
Or is that kind of passion the preserve of youth or clandestine or forbidden relationships, whose very nature is the reason for the passion?
My people, what are your thoughts?
