My Baby is Eight!!
Today, my baby turns eight. I still have vivid memories of her as a baby. A baby who, even then was very strong willed, who made her displeasure known very loudly. She made me know that babies could get angry. That they too had emotions and mood swings. That babies did not just eat, poop and sleep.
From the first moment, the bond between us was profound. I know they talk about fathers and their daughters and mine has hers lovingly wrapped round her little finger, but my daughter and I have a connection that is certainly heaven-sent.
She knows, even when I try to shield her from my moods, she knows when I am sad, hurt or upset. As a baby, she would just snuggle in my arms and stare into my face, cooing quietly, as if to say "Don't worry Mummy, I'm here." As a toddler, she would just hug me and kiss me and say "Okay Mummy?" much the same way I'd hug and kiss her when she was upset.
Now she comes to me and says "Don't be sad Mummy, okay? I love you!" and give me the sweetest hug.
I love her so much. So, so much.
She is the daughter of my soul, Morenike (my companion). She came to me at a time when I had given up hope of good things, when I was resigned to the emptiness of my life. She brought with her the gift of more fruits, her baby brother. The joy she gives me, every day, even when she is being naughty, especially when she is naughty!
The radiance of her sweetness permeates everything around us. Her brother, my other baby, adores her and would do anything for her - though he'll be hard pressed to admit that, lol!!
We all love her. Her smart mouth, her loving nature, her kindness and love for everyone - except those who are mean to her brother! She sees the good in every one.
Today, as she adds another year to her life, as she continues her journey on the path God has set for her, I want to thank the good Lord for His gift of her in my life. I ask that He continues to bless and keep her, that He forever protects her. That the love, goodness and kindness in her never leaves her. That His strength forges and forms the hardiness of her spirit, making her stronger but not breaking her. That His loving kindness and countenance be forever upon her. That His grace and mercy never leave her. That He order her steps and that His glory be forever manifested in all that she does so that whoever sees or has contact with her will see the manifestation of God always.
My Mama, God bless you, now & always.
Happy Birthday Sweetheart.
