Of Adultery, Gay marriage and Incest.

WHAT A WEEK!
***************
● Adultery is legalized in South Africa by the Constitutional Court
● Gay marriage is legalized by the U.S. Supreme Court.
● Germany’s National Ethics Council has called for an end to the criminalisation of incest between siblings after examining the case of a man who had four children with his sister.
● Japanese court rules"Adultery is Ok if its for business purpose!"
ALL IN ONE WEEK!
I find these turn of events and our reactions to it interesting.
Below is my post and views on the matters.
Nothing is new under the sun!
Let's begin with incest - it is wrong. The Bible forbids marriage between siblings I believe. However, after the Biblical flooding and cleansing of the earth, the earth had to be repopulated by an incestuous relationship so....
For the Gay matter, again, ain't nothing new under the sun. Everybody knows of Sodom and Gomorrah - the historical parents of sexual immorality, perversion and depravity. I know that I am sounding judgmental by the inference that being gay is sexual immorality - I am not being judgmental, just stating a historical or Biblical fact.
The adultery matter, in my opinion, just removes the hypocrisy in our
societies. The French have for centuries been rather accommodating of extramarital relationships. In recent times, the sight of the wife and mistress of a late ex-president of France walking hand-in-hand in front of their dead hubby/lover was probably a strange sight for many non-French viewers.
"Adultery" is one of those terms that's relative. The Israelites practised polygamy, AND had concubines so technically, as long as they married the woman or declared her a concubine, everybody was good. So, I wonder, where did the term come from and to whom did it apply?
Interestingly, I cannot find a single place in the Bible where any man was punished for "adultery" but a woman would be stoned - anybody knows of a place in the Bible, let me know.
Moses said they were not to covet their neighbour's wife or anything that belonged to their neighbor (I guess that meant women were not allowed to covet their neighbour's husband, Lol!) So, by inference, I assume adultery meant a sexual relationship between two people who were already someone's husband, wife or concubine. Abi?
In Nigeria, "adultery" is unofficially accepted. Many Church leaders, elders and "Christians" are the worst offenders. Wives turn a blind eye to their husband's philandering. Men do not even want to imagine that their wives would even step out on them and except there is obvious evidence will pretend it is not happening.
The truth is, the concept of adultery is totally alien to our culture. And, while we have embraced Christianity, we have not embraced the abstinence from the lures of the flesh taught by the religion.
"Fornication" it seems was originally used to mean idolatry, and in the Latin translations of the Bible. The word itself is Latin and it means to have intercourse with prostitutes. And interestingly, fornication wasn't a Biblical issue till the New Testament. I may be wrong, so I will stand corrected if I am. The term used for sexual immorality and depravity I think was derived from the Greek "porneia" whose definition included "indulging in any kind of unlawful lust.
Someone in my group said the human race has lost their way. We don lost tey tey! I guess that's why God kept sending prophets and a Saviour and yet another prophet.
But, like the proverbial dog that won't heed the hunter's whistle, the human race will continue its march to ruin! And things will get much worse before it's all over!
So, yep! Lord have mercy on us all.
